How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Provide core app functionality (managing courses, assignments, schedules, and grades)
- Sync your data across your Apple devices when signed in
- Send notifications about upcoming deadlines and scheduled events
- Process and manage your subscription
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app stability
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features (using anonymized data)
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored locally on your device for offline access and synced to secure cloud servers when you sign in. We implement industry-standard security measures:
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses TLS encryption
- Encryption at Rest: Stored data is encrypted on our servers
- Data Isolation: Database security rules ensure you can only access your own data
- Secure Authentication: Passwords are never stored—we use secure token-based authentication
Third-Party Services
We use carefully selected third-party services to operate the App:
Analytics
We use a privacy-focused analytics service to collect anonymized usage statistics. This helps us understand which features are used and how to improve the app. Our analytics provider does not collect personally identifiable information.
Error Reporting
We use an error reporting service to detect and diagnose app crashes and errors. When an error occurs, this service may collect:
- Device information (model, OS version)
- App state and error details
- Session replay data (screen interactions leading to the error) for a sample of sessions
- Screenshots at the time of error for a sample of error reports
Session replays and screenshots are collected from a small percentage of sessions (not all users) to help us diagnose issues while minimizing data collection. This information helps us quickly identify and fix issues to improve your experience. To opt out of session replay data collection, contact us at contact@studykit.education.
Subscription Management
We use a subscription management service to handle in-app purchases. This service processes subscription events from Apple and communicates subscription status to our servers. They do not have access to your academic data.
AI Study Assistant (Kit)
We offer an AI-powered study companion called Kit that helps with academic questions, grade analysis, and study planning.
Data Processed by AI:
- Your conversations with Kit are processed by our third-party AI service provider
- Kit accesses your academic data (courses, assignments, grades, schedule, study sessions) to provide personalized responses
- Uploaded documents (syllabi, notes, attachments) may be sent to the AI for analysis when relevant to your questions
- Web searches may be performed on your behalf by the AI service to answer questions requiring current information
- Mathematical calculations requested during conversations may be executed on our AI provider's servers
Conversation Storage:
- Your conversations with Kit are stored to maintain context across sessions
- You can delete individual conversations or your entire chat history at any time
- Conversation data is retained until you delete it—we do not automatically delete your conversation history
AI Provider Practices:
- We send only the data necessary to provide contextual, personalized responses
- Our AI service provider does not use your conversations to train their AI models
- AI request logs are automatically deleted by our provider within 7 days
- We maintain a Data Processing Agreement with our AI provider that includes standard contractual clauses for data protection
AI Accuracy: Kit's responses are AI-generated and may not always be accurate. Always verify important information, especially regarding grades, deadlines, and academic requirements. Kit is a study companion, not a replacement for official academic resources.
Automated Decision-Making: Kit provides recommendations, grade projections, and study suggestions based on your data. These are informational tools to assist your academic planning—we do not make any automated decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects on you. All academic decisions remain entirely yours.
Cloud Infrastructure
Your data is stored on secure cloud servers that comply with industry security standards. All data is encrypted and access is strictly controlled.
